Bridal Makeup Preview

A bridal makeup preview allows us to design and refine your wedding makeup together ahead of your big day.

This appointment is not about putting your artist “on trial,” but rather about exploring your vision and previewing how your wedding makeup will look and feel.

During your preview we can:

• discuss your wedding style and dress
• review inspiration images
• adjust the level of glam
• test how the makeup photographs and wears

While previews are highly recommended, they are not mandatory if you feel confident in my work and are happy to trust the process.

Preparing for Your Bridal Preview

To get the most accurate preview of your wedding day makeup, it’s important to come as prepared as possible.

For the best results, your preview should ideally be scheduled closer to your wedding date — often a few weeks before or even the week of the wedding.

This allows us to see how the makeup will truly look alongside your final details.

Things to consider before your preview:

• Your hair colour and cut should be similar to your wedding day colour
• If you plan to wear a spray tan, try to have one for your preview
• If you usually cover grey hairs, have this done beforehand
• Try to style your hair similarly to how you plan to wear it

Timing is Everything: Avoid scheduling your trial too early as skin conditions may change closer to the big day.

These details make a significant difference to how makeup appears. For example, hair colour, skin tone and tanning can completely change how makeup looks and photographs.

Weight changes can also slightly alter facial structure, which is another reason previews are often best done closer to the wedding date.

The preview helps ensure your final bridal makeup feels completely aligned with your finished wedding look.

It’s a Collaboration, Not a Test: A preview isn’t about putting your makeup artist "on trial." It's about working together to perfect your bridal look and streamline the process for the wedding day.

After the trial, feel free to communicate any adjustments, such as a different lip color or lash style. This allows us to come fully prepared with exactly what you need.

Not only does it allow us to map out your makeup look in advance, ensuring it complements your vision, but it also means we can jump straight into application on the big day (and more time for the luxury skin prep)—giving us more time to perfect every detail. A preview essentially helps us get to know your skin type, preferences, and any sensitivities, reducing the chances of any last-minute hiccups and ensuring a smooth, stress-free experience whilst the preview helps ensure your final bridal makeup feels completely aligned with your finished wedding look.

Pre-Wedding Beauty Preparation

Many brides choose to prepare their brows, lashes and skin in the months leading up to their wedding.

At Makeup & Beauty Bar, we offer a range of pre-wedding beauty treatments in Edinburgh to help you feel fully polished and ready.

These may include:

• brow shaping and brow styling
• brow lamination or hybrid dye brows
• facial waxing
• intimate waxing and lash lifts for honeymoon preparation

Brides can also choose to follow our Wedding Prep Journey, which provides guidance on how to gradually prepare your brows and beauty treatments over the months leading up to your wedding day.

Even if I only see you once for your wedding makeup, I still provide helpful advice so you can prepare your skin, brows and beauty treatments with confidence.

Q: Can I make changes after the trial?
Absolutely! If you decide you want a different lash style or lip colour, just let us know ahead of time. We'll make sure to accommodate your preferences.

Q: Do you provide makeup services outside of salon hours?
Yes, but please note that an additional fee applies for services outside standard hours.

Q: What if I’m unsure about my skin type?
Don’t worry! During your consultation or trial, we can discuss your skin type and recommend the best prep routine to ensure your makeup looks flawless.

  • Out-of-hours appointments fees apply
    (This applies mainly to in-salon bridal bookings taking place before or after standard salon hours)

  • Late arrivals or appointment delays

  • Looks that take significantly longer than discussed, e.g. choosing full glam on the day when soft glam was originally booked

  • Arriving with makeup or skincare residue that delays application

  • Last-minute changes or service upgrades during the appointment

  • These fees reflect the additional time, product, and potential schedule adjustments required. Clear communication and preparation help avoid these, and I’m always happy to advise in advance

Preparation Before Makeup:
To ensure the best results, all clients are expected to arrive with completely clean skin — this means no makeup, moisturiser, or skincare products. Please double cleanse your face upon waking using your usual skincare method, but refrain from applying any products afterward. I will professionally prep your skin to suit the makeup being applied.

If I need to remove existing makeup or skincare residue, this may:

  • Affect the performance and longevity of the makeup

  • Cut into your allocated appointment time

  • Incur a surcharge for additional time required

If I’m unable to complete your makeup within the booked timeframe due to removal delays, I cannot be held responsible for any unfinished work.
