Benefits of Waxing

  • Enhanced Hygiene: Removing hair can reduce odour and improve cleanliness.

  • Prevention of Ingrown Hairs: Unlike shaving, waxing minimises the risk of ingrown hairs.

  • Finer Regrowth – Hair becomes softer and sparser with consistency

  • Time Efficiency: Spend less time on daily grooming and more time enjoying smooth skin.

  • Promotes better hygiene and lasting freshness

  • Lasts Longer: Unlike shaving, results last anywhere up to 6 weeks!

  • ✨ Boosts body confidence and self-care routines

Understanding Hair Regrowth

Hair regrowth varies based on factors such as hair cycles, medications, genetics, hormones, and age.

  • Body hair: regrowth every 4–6 weeks

  • Facial hair: may need treatment every 1–2 weeks

With regular waxing, your hair will begin to grow back slower, finer, and softer. Each session improves your results.

Why Shaving Between Appointments Is a No-Go

Shaving disrupts everything waxing helps you achieve.
When you shave between waxing appointments:

  • Hair grows back blunter, coarser, and faster

  • You reset your progress and make waxing less effective

  • Hair cycles fall out of sync, reducing long-term results

✨ Don’t shave—reschedule instead. Your skin will thank you

First Time? Nervous? You’re Not Alone.

Especially when it comes to intimate waxing, nerves are completely normal. But here's the truth: the experience is far less scary than you think.

In fact, most of the discomfort is mental—tension and overthinking heighten the sensation. Once you relax, it becomes easier, quicker, and far less painful.

💗 I create a safe, supportive, and professional space
💗 I talk you through the entire process and offer honest advice
💗 After 2–3 appointments, the difference in comfort and results is remarkable
💗 Many first-timers say, “That wasn’t bad at all!”

Clients often tell me they can’t believe they didn’t try waxing sooner—and now, they’ll never go back.

How to Prepare for Your Wax (Etiquette + Pre Care Tips

Before You Arrive:
  • Shower beforehand if possible, especially for intimate waxing

  • Exfoliate the area gently the night before (not the day of) to loosen dead skin and help lift trapped hairs

  • Do not apply moisturiser, oils, deodorant, or skincare to the area on the day of your wax—skin must be clean and product-free

  • Avoid sun exposure and sunbeds 24–48 hours before your wax, and never arrive with sunburned skin

  • Check any medications or skincare products (such as retinol, AHAs/BHAs, or Accutane) with your therapist, as these may be contraindicated for waxing

For Intimate Waxing Clients:

  • Please avoid wearing your favourite underwear, as wax can sometimes transfer onto fabric during treatment

I provide disposable thongs if you prefer, or if your underwear makes waxing difficult to work around

  • Always come feeling fresh—personal hygiene is deeply appreciated and ensures a better treatment experience

  • Refrain from exercise or arriving straight from the gym, as sweat and friction can lead to unpleasant odours and skin irritation

To ensure the best waxing experience:

  • Avoid Caffeine: Refrain from consuming caffeine before your appointment to minimise skin sensitivity.

  • Avoid Sunbeds: Do not use sunbeds for at least 24 hours prior to waxing to prevent skin irritation.

  • Sunburned Skin: We cannot perform waxing on sunburned areas.

  • Skin Conditions: We do not wax over eczema or psoriasis, as it may exacerbate these conditions.

  • Underarm Waxing: Do not apply deodorant before underarm waxing.

  • Physical Activities: Engage in showers, swimming, or exercise before your appointment, as these should be avoided for 24 hours post-waxing.

  • Intimate Waxing: Avoid sexual intercourse for 24 hours after intimate waxing to prevent irritation.

Salon Etiquette & Booking Flexibility

At Makeup & Beauty Bar, I understand that life happens—and sometimes your body has its own schedule too. While I maintain clear policies to protect everyone’s time and ensure smooth operations, I always aim to be fair and compassionate.

  • If your period arrives unexpectedly, you’re welcome to contact me on the morning of your appointment. I’ll do my best to reschedule you for the following week and transfer your booking fee.

  • If you ever feel unwell, have a skin reaction, or need to adjust your treatment on the day, just let me know—we’ll always work together to find the best solution.

Thank you for respecting my time, just as I respect yours. Creating a kind, understanding space goes both ways—and it’s what makes this salon special.

Contra Actions

This is an un-wanted reaction during or after the service which could occur

Erythema- Redness on the area waxed, this is completely normal and results from the heat and pulling of the hir from the root which subsides usually within 24 hours depending on your skin

Burns- This is usually down to poor following of pre care such as using retinols leading up to your appointment or certain undisclosed health conditions/ medications

Bruising- This can happen if stretching had failed. we usually give the best strecth we can but if you move/ don't co-operate with us as sometimes we ask you to help then this is when this may occur. If it does happen apply a cold compress and it will heal

Allergic Reaction- this presents itself a redness followed by raised, swollen itchy skin possible blisters and sensitivity. Seek medical advice if severe and avoid waxing but we ask that you let us know so we can add it to your file and help where we can

Lifted Skin- again this is due to poor stretching or prior use of certain skin care on the area, medical conditions/ mediations undisclosed. This may not appear straight away. Treat as a burn.

Discomfort- everyone's pain tolerance is individual, see section in more detail on anchor Addressing Pain Concerns* for more details. Waxing is usually more painful the week leading, during and a week after menstruation. Following correct pre care and being at ease aka not stressing about the treatment will help, we always do our upmost best with experience to minimise discomfort. We strongly advise to reschedule any intimate (Hollywood, bum or Brazilian waxing if your on your periods). We do not wax these areas during then.

Contra- Indications

This is when you are not able to get Waxing done, The salon may need to either restrict or prevent the treatment from going ahead.

Ro- Accutane- Acne medication makes the skin fragile and so lifting may happen preventing treatment.

Retin-A or Tetracycline- Topical or antibiotic medications that increases skin sensitivity preventing treatment.

Diabetes- Skin is slow to heal and sensation may be impaired. Increased infection risk. GP consent required. If taking steroid based medication waxing is not allowed. A general rule is to wait at least three months after discontinuing strong steroid creams or prolonged use of steroid creams before waxing. It's important to inform your waxing technician about any steroid use or concerns about skin sensitivity.

Blood thinning medication / haemophilia- Increased risk of bruising due to reduced blood clotting ability. GP consent required.

Defective Circulation- Poor skin healing may occur due to reduced blood flow (symptom of heart disease, MS or diabetes). GP consent required.

Epilepsy- Neurological condition which causes fitting, can be mildly affected (petit mal) or severely affected (grand mal).  GP consent is required

Mild skin disorders- Such as eczema or psoriasis - will restrict treatment, affected areas must be avoided.

Bruising- Caused by bleeding under the skin. Restricts treatment - working over a bruise may worsen it.

Varicose Veins, Thrombosis or a history of any blood or Circulatory disorders- Waxing increases blood flow and can potentially damage or irritate sensitive veins, especially if they are already weakened. Additionally, if you are taking blood thinners, consult with your doctor before waxing, as waxing can increase the risk of bleeding

Recent Scar Tissue- It is generally not recommended to wax over recent scar tissue, especially if it's less than 6 months old or if it reopens periodically. Waxing can cause skin trauma and potentially worsen the appearance or health of the scar.

Broken Bones, Sprains or Fractures- Waxing should be avoided as waxing could cause irritation. Wait until the area is completely healed before considering waxing.

What to Expect During Your Appointment

Your comfort is my top priority. From the moment you arrive, you’ll be supported with a friendly, respectful, and professional approach—especially if you’re new to waxing.

We’ll begin with a brief consultation where I’ll walk you through how I carry out the treatment, what to expect, and how to get prepped. You’ll then be left with privacy to undress and get comfortable as advised.

Once we begin:

  • I’ll guide you through positioning and check in with you throughout the treatment

  • You’ll never be left feeling unsure, rushed, or exposed

  • The vibe is usually chatty and upbeat—but if you prefer a more peaceful experience, you can book a Silent Appointment add-on when scheduling your service

  • All treatments are carried out to the highest hygiene standards, using expert techniques for efficient, long-lasting results

  • Every appointment ends with detailed aftercare guidance, so you feel fully supported beyond the salon

Addressing Pain Concerns

Pain perception varies among individuals. Many clients find that intimate waxing is less painful than anticipated. Remaining calm and avoiding tensing up can significantly reduce discomfort. With routine and consistency, each session becomes more comfortable, quicker, and yields benefits such as finer hair regrowth.

Aftercare and Maintenance

  • Post-Treatment Care: After waxing, avoid exercise, applying skincare products to the waxed areas, excessive touching, swimming, saunas, and steam rooms for 24-48 hours. Refrain from using make up on waxed facial areas during this period.

  • Consistency: For optimal results, maintain a regular waxing schedule. Typically, three initial sessions are recommended to synchronise hair growth cycles. Sporadic waxing or switching between salons may hinder desired outcomes.

  • Home Waxing: Avoid at-home waxing, as improper techniques can lead to broken hairs and increase the risk of ingrown hairs.

  • Exfoliation: Dry brushing before showers, a few times a week, can help exfoliate the skin, leading to better waxing results by loosening stubborn hairs.

  • Moisturisation: Moisturise daily with a suitable product for your skin type to maintain skin health and enhance waxing results.

  • Shaving Between Sessions: Refrain from shaving between waxing appointments. If you must delay a session, it's better to reschedule than to shave, which can disrupt the waxing cycle and affect results.

  • Booking Future Appointments: To establish a consistent routine, consider booking your next waxing session at the end of your current appointment. This practice aids in achieving the best results.
